Audio is seperate from an SDI signal, no? My experience with SDI is that it’s a seperate signal from audio. In my case, I’m sending out SDI video, and analog audio (it is possible to send digital audio, but we’re not set up that way…).
If you are sending out a proper signal from your deck, you should be getting good audio. Is there a DA somewhere in the signal path? Is it possible you are sending an analog audio signal, but seeing a digital signal in your meters?

Version 12 of Composer is OSX ready (version 10.2.6, to be exact – no more, no less). It was a pretty painless upgrade. I did have problems with the VLAN (you can’t use it), so I hooked right into the keyspan (I used the old cables that used to come with the Medialog software – the 9 pin to control). Avid insists on a dual processor G4, but I’m running a single processor with no problems. I’d jump on the next new G4 you can find – they’re getting pretty rare….

Try outboard meters. Check out BSW, Markertek, the usual suspects…
Right now, our DVD recorder is a destination in our dub rack, and everything goes through analog Panasonic VHS machines with meters. It’s a rough guesstamate, but it’ll let you know if something is severly out of whack…

How much will it cost you to live there? How many kids/dogs/cats/wives will you be supporting? Are you buying or renting? Moving costs? Double latte costs at the local Starbucks? What are YOU worth?

[Mark Suszko] “so I did a google search for quotes about engineers and engineering. Came up with a Chinese proverb that was kind of open-ended: you could read almost anything into it, but it was the best quote I could find about building roads.”
OK, Mark, I gotta’ know – what was the quote?

Go to MacMall and buy a G5 🙂
Sorry, coulnt’ resist….To zap the PRAM, hold down OPTION, COMMAND key, the P and R at the same time until you hear a second startup chime. Then reset your settings.
The battery is simple. Shut down your mac, open the case and look for what looks like a watch battery. Take it to Batteries + (or whatever battery store is in your town) and get a new one. Replace, power up and you should be golden.Jon

[James Zito] “I’m just frustrated with all these different formats, etc and no standards.”
Yeah, you and everybody else, buddy! I’ve tried to keep my sanity by pretending it doesn’t exsist. But then again, I’m shooting DVCPro 25, Beta SP and DV. I’ve got a PC XPress Pro DV, MC Meridian, and people want everything from DVD and VHS to Beta SP. And don’t get me started about giving my PC based clients .wmv PowerPoint files from a mac. I’ve got no hair to pull out!
Ahh, for the good ol’ days of linear editing (that dissolve will cost you $500.00!), 1″ tape machines and grumpy engineers who made everything work and play well with others.
Then again, maybe not.
