    Hi All:

I wonder whether I can create a vignette effect on avid with the standard effects. Any ideas? At the studio we have magic bullet with elastic gasket and there is a vignette effect but I wonder this is something that can be done without using 3rd party plug-ins.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks

    Sam

    Hello Sam,

Sure, you can do it with a .psd and a alpha channel. When you make the hole for the vignette, just make sure you have a nice 10 px+ feather. You may have better results saving the file as a .png, and importing that.

    Sam,

Just import a full frame of whatever color you want the vignette to be and lay it on the layer above whatever video needs the vignette. Apply the AniMatte effect to the full color graphic and you can draw a shape, swap sources, crank up the feathering, and adjust it any way you want.

    Hope this helps,
    Keith

Well..if you are on a recent Mediacomposer, Adrenaline or Symphony the built in Animatte effect can do this very easy.

Or, you can duplicate the video on V1 and V2. Make whatever color correction/color effect you want on V1, including lowering the video level to get the darkened sky. Drop the BCC wipe “soft sky” on V2…then adjust the width, softness, and feathering from there.
