We tried that for a while, but we found a conflict with Premiere and the newer version of QT. Now, we export a QT reference into Sorenson, and burn it using Reel DVD. We don’t author, just first play stuff.

I’ve never liked the way Avid exports anything other than QT. I don’t even bother trying. The reference file is small and uses the original OMFI file as a reference.

Could you please post more detail? Like, how what kind and how much storage you have? What’s the resolution of the footage? How much memory do you have? Underruns (audio or video) happen when you have your video and audio in the same place on the same drive, and the head can’t access the files quick enough. You need drives that spin at least 10k RPM… There are several ways to fix that. Redidigitize and put your audio and video on different drives, physically move the offending file (not for the faint of heart!), do a mixdown, making sure to save the mixdown to a seperate drive…

The UVW can’t handle 16:9. How did you check the SP master?

If you’ve got Sorenson, use it.

I don’t work Adrenaline (MC Meridian Mac & AXP PC are my platforms of choice…), however, I’ve found the following through trial and error –

-Don’t use the Avid to export anything other than a QT Reference – and export it by right clicking the sequence in the bin, and select send to>encoding>(assuming you have Sorenson installed)Sorenson. Once there export native dimensions. Don’t let Avid do anything to your file. I have had absolutely no luck letting Avid convert my file in any other way than native dimensions.
-Make sure you turn off ‘auto de-interlacing’ in Sorenson. I don’t remember what version is which, but it’s either a little wrench at the top of the window, or you have to create a new filter and apply it each time.
-Once in Sorenson, start with a data rate of around 5000, and set your I-frames to 12. That will provide a good starting point.

QT reference should do the trick. Also check your QT version, and make sure it’s compatible with the AXPro version you are running.

As long as the Dell is configured properly (a visit to Avid.com will verify) you should have no problems. Dell is one of the machines Avid prefers, along with HP. My standard advice? Buy from an authorized reseller. If you are putting this machine together for a buisness, you’ll save yourself hair in the short term and money in the long term.
