Hi guys,
The desired effect here is a piece of text that “glows” on screen, and then “glows” off. I’ve used the normal “glow” effect in AE, on an adjustment layer and a dynamic mask that scoots across the text.
No matter what I do, when I render it out, the “glow” is almost non-existant, despite being quite nice in AE.
I’ve tried straight mattes, tiffs, 8, 16 and 32bpc, targas and on and on, but the effect won’t render out.
I am perplexed. My alternative, which I’m going ahead with, is to take the DNXHD video into after effects, do the combination there and render out as DNXHD QTs for re-import into Avid. This is much more time consuming than simply outputting files with alpha channels though!

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the useful info on this matter. I am starting to think that my problem is in AE, not Avid, as every time I check the output, my effect is not working properly.

I’ll bug people over at the AE forum more. But really, thanks for all this great info on the subject!

September 23, 2010 at 4:02 pm in reply to: Trying to import an After Effects comp as a menu.Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I now have the comp in Encore, it is a menu…but the buttons I’ve designated (with the (+)) and their respective subpicture highlights are not functioning at all. In the layers panel, it all shows up as one layer “background”.
I’m absolutely baffled.

Whenever I get those errors, I restart everything, and make sure that the timeline is rendered (including nested effects).

It could be any number of your effects that are preventing the render. It could also be the size of your composition. If you provide some more details, maybe someone could help.

We run Avid Liquid in our DVD authoring suite, and Media Composer in our 4 Edit suites.
There is no comparison. RUN to get a copy of Media Composer. With it’s bundled software, it can do everything liquid can, and then about a million times more. -
Thanks, Brian, that does look like one way of achieving the effect that I wanted.
What I ended up doing was changing the comp frame rate to 99fps, exporting a tiff sequence that i import at 24fps. Made the effect look like nice slick slow motion.

We have a Sony HVR-Z1U running video to a Sony anycast. The video then routes to a mac just for the image capture.
I am wondering if this is our ideal setup, and also what is the best way to capture an image on the mac.
Thanks for getting back to me! -
Your Avid can’t read H.264. The reason your workaround works is because you’re converting it to an Animation QT, which CAN be read by AE and Avid.

I wouldn’t run your media through a USB connection. Is there a spare firewire connection that you could use for that?
