Client walked in today with a card reader.
“We used a Canon as our crash cam. Here.”
Copied all to a hard drive. clips open in QuickTime. Okay.
Import into Avid, resizing HD to SD, and get a clip of black, just black. change project to 1080i, same problem.
import clip into AfterEffects; also black.
Re-open in QT, now it’s black there. corruption?
After testing and hoop-jumping, my solution for today was to export from QT using Animation codec, Use AE to resize, adjust levels to 601, blur to reduce jaggies, and then import to avid.

Any ideas what’s causing the black clips?
AE CS2 and Avid Adrenaline Composer, on PC.

Your Avid can’t read H.264. The reason your workaround works is because you’re converting it to an Animation QT, which CAN be read by AE and Avid.
