Play them again in VLC Media Player. While playing, press CTRL+J to get information about them. What does it tell you about the codec for video?

What are the original file sizes? And what was the recording device (brand/model #)? That may help track it down.

Adobe CC 2017.1 (as of 8/2017)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from UHD MP4, HD MP4, and HD P2 MXF.

Are Explainer Videos some special thing, or are you seeking to simply create finished video clips that explain how to make things/fix things/accomplish tasks?

If the latter, any decent editing software can get the job done. Without a lot more detail on what you are planning to do, and
depending on your expectations, we can’t offer much more feedback.

Chris, next time I have an issue I am so stealing that.

I’ll give you credit the first three times. 😉

A quick poke-around doesn’t seem to indicate your camera shoots “thin-raster” once commonly used to keep file-size/data rate under control.

So – how did you import your footage? Did you use Adobe’s Media Browser? If not, Premiere Pro may be confused by broken connections to metadata.

It’s generally recommended to make a complete copy of the camera media – including folder structure – to your project storage, and to pull it in via the Media Browser in Premiere Pro.

In the future you can easily use Media Encode for conversion. No need to hunt down another fie converter.

VLC Media Player is pretty handy for quickly finding out what codecs are hidden inside the wrapper. Press CTRL+J while a clip is playing.

Blaise nailed the answer. Transcode or work with proxy files. That is the reality for everyone, regardless of beast CPU’s or beast storage. A the moment, heavily encoded formats are beating hardware. This will push the next gen of hardware, and then the hardware will win – for a while.

It’s always been like riding on a see-saw since non-linear editing stepped up on the stage.

We need a lot more information about your system to figure out what is going on. Mac/PC? OS? Media type?

Are you talking about an external monitor, or the monitor in the application?

Has this been going on for a while or just started?

    Recent changes/updates/upgrades to system?

And Greg’s specs are indeed the bare minimum. You mention nothing about your storage. Slow external storage may be contributing to the issue. And if you have your footage on the same drive as you OS and apps, that is a big no-no.

Does it happen only with a particular font?

What if you reduce the size of the font further?

Tell us about your system specs. Adobe version you are using. Etc.
