Dynamic Link is actually a small piece of software that gets installed only with the Production and Master Collections. If you are running the apps as separate installs then you won’t have Dynamic Link abilities.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You can still export from AE and then import the video file into PPro as per pre-Dynamic Link era. 🙂

The footage would be best if captured in a ProRes codec. The Apple HDV intermediate codec is not happy outside of FCP.

Everyone is different. I like using two. But I actually wok in one and use the other as a fullscreen monitor (which i calibrate for grading). Then if I am file managing I can use the two screens to separate and divide my folder windows. Most of the time i am not editing the second monitor is not being used. 30″ would break my wrist moving from one end of the “earth” to the other.

I see two problems.

1. DSLR and CS4
2. 1 Gig RAM

For DSLR you will need CS5 no matter what your specs.

For decent editing with CS4 of anything, even DV, you will want 4Gig RAM.

You can convert the DSLR tonsokething else but that’s not going to be a quick process. Perhaps P2.

Again you will want want 4gig RAM.

The biggest problem you face is that knowing how this system works would have lead you to start editing with clips that have the same name so when relinking it all comes together very quickly as you would just be directing to another source folder (HD).

Sorry, there is no faster way to relink if you don’t have the same names. What kind if difference in naming is there?

Bridge has a fantastic ability to rename a group and find replace text. Eg find SD replace HD etc.

It is possible your fields are in the wrong order. A computer won’t show it as all computers monitors are progressive therefore an interlaced video with incorrect field dominance will only show up on a DVD on a tv.

Try a test where you export a small section of the timeline with an adjustment to the export settings from the field dominance to the other. If it was lower change to upper. Vice versa. You may need to burn annither disc to test. If you have VLC you can set the deinterlacing to off so you can see the interlacing issue to some degree. When the fields are right it looks odd, when they are wring it’s nothing short of horrible and unwatchable. It will only show prominently on moving action.

If you hold down the alt key while selecting across a range of audio only then the video will not be selected too. This works vice versa too.

Think of Alt key as like a solo or individual only modifier to all the tools.

HDV material can ingest rather poorly sometimes and lose a frame here and there and ruing the audio sync as that isn’t affected only the vision.

It’s a pain but you will have to just find the sync manually for this one I’m afraid.

I usually edit nasty media like this in a quite a creative way. I add it to a timeline called Master Sync, sync all the media I need and link them so when I select the video the audio is also selected. Now these clips can’t be put into a folder in the project panel as linked video audio single subclips.

heres the trick:
Open a timeline to add the clips into (aka edit). Then grab the tab of the Master Sync timeline and move it up so it sits in its own panel space by itself above the other timeline panel. Now you should have two stacked timeline panels! amazing!

Here is an example of layout, not that this project is using this process.

Switching from looking at the top Master Sync timeline to find clips and set in out points then lift (; key) makes a hole, but means the lifted media are in the clipboard ready for pasting, or you can just work out cuts and copy the clip (leaving it in the timeline).

The program panel will auto switch to the current working timeline.
