Sorry mate, this technique is what we have at the moment.
I use FCP a lot and know the find in timeline workflow you are accustomed to. I would love to see that in PPro.
If you are editing multicam stuff with whereby a clip is cam a or b, you can set a color label to each cam angle and then select color groups for pasting attributes.
Or if you have done the multiclip edit just go into the nest and grade from the original track in one massive sweep. The MC nest will show all the angles with the attributes.
I’ll work on a tutorial. 🙂

Media browser with the xdcam view to show video icons is the way to go.

In CS5 and CS5.5 you can drag and drop (DnD) a clip over the “New Item” Icon at the bottom of the project panel (it looks like a little page with the top left corner folded over).
PPro will make a sequence that matches the clip you DnD.
CS4, still requires the manual use of finding the correct matching sequence settings for the clip.

Take a look at this picture, there is a way to find a clip in the project panel with the search filter and then when you select the clip next to the name of the clip and its property details at the top of the project panel where the thumbnail is shown, there is a little arrow head that when selected shows all the instances of the clip across all the sequences, it has a separate listing for video and audio usage. Very handy.
It will only allow you to jump to clips one at a time, but you can then select the clip in the timeline and make it a color label that is not defined by other clips and when you finish the “single” searching, yes this can definitely be improved with timeline search and select, but this is how it can be done at the moment. I usually set my clips to different color labels before I edit them so I know Interview cuts Vs CAs, or Montage shots etc. Then you can select the group of a set color.
I know it’s not ideal, but it’s better than manually looking with your eyes against a timeline that will surely become a mental blur after some minutes doing it.

technically what you see happening in AE is the work area comp length makes the full view of the timeline absolute to a set length. That is not how PPro is designed to work.
Hitting the “\” key (backslash) will zoom out to what is known as the 80/20 view, whereby the edited sequence fills 80% of the timeline panel and the last 20% remains open to add more media to.
So technically the answer is No it won’t work like AE.
When you hit backslash key again it remembers the last set zoom in and applies that amount of zoom to wherever the CTI (Current Time Indicator/AKA: Playhead) is placed so a quick zoom out new CTI position and zoom back will give fast responsive workflow with detailed editing along “longer” projects without needing to zoom out out out out, move Playhead, zoom in in in in in.

What is likely happening is the audio from the clip is in say mono with a L and R channel separated. The 1st 3 audio tracks by default are stereo which can only accept stereo audio clips.
So the Mono clips (or 5.1 clips) get added underneath to their own Mono (or 5.1) track to match the clip type.Use the mouse to move down the tracks and you will see the audio.
To clean up the empty tracks you can right click where the track names are and select delete tracks… then tick delete and select all empty.

Are you having issues with the frame dimension of 1080 not filling the edge of the 720 timeline?
That is corrected with a right click on the clips in the timeline and selecting “scale to frame”.
This function can be switched on in preferences general to automatically apply to imported clips after the setting has been activated in prefs.
