I have never used Mercalli, but it sounds like you want to have all your clips side by side and cross dissolved, then add the Mercalli Effect to them in one foul swoop?
Does it work if you make all the clips with transitions and then make that sequence a nest in another sequence. Finally adding Mercalli to the nest sequence which would be considered as one long clip…

Hi Michael,
Looking at your 720P version I can see plenty of Compression chucks going on in the wood and pretty much anywhere there is lots of red or orange. This is typical of that colour range to compress badly. I think you might be expecting too much from the camera and compression type you are working with.
I am not saying you aren’t doing a professional production here, just that this is the limitations of working with AVCHD.
I doubt you will be much better than you are already seeing.

It does depend on the quality of the original source. You are comparing VIVO to your videos, but we don’t know what format you are working with. AVCHD footage is heavily compressed and may look great at 720p for you, but compared to something that is shot with RED or Film to DPX is going to look so much better you’d can compare the two when they are then recompressed down to 360p on YouTube. Some extra softening from the compression will occur.
I do know that there is an immediate 360 quality that looks very average and then a higher quality one becomes available sometime later…

There are plenty of tutorials about how to do this with After Effects. I suppose there is a type of bad TV look you could do with PPro and not using any special third party effects. Do you have a link we can use as reference to what you are looking to do?

I am going to guess here that the tutorial you watched was using a clip that had 720×480 dimensions and yours is more like 837×392 which when divided in half either side you get the figures you see.
You could be seeing a problem with the clip being of an unconventional size and the effect attempting to apply itself to fit the sequence dimensions.
I’m not sure with PPro use of the effect, I use the After Effects version for any write on effects as there is much more control and the use of bezier masks…

Hi Alex,
I think what is wanted here is to bypass having to open PPro at all and just use AME to import the Sequences. There is an inconsistent workflow when doing this whereby the sequence name is not used as the filename, but rather the project name for all sequences within that project.
It is not so much a “bug” as not consistent with expected workflow. I am sure it will be resolved in upcoming versions, but currently with 5.5 the issue remains.
The only way to work with sequence names as default filenames is as you point out – exporting from PPro.

Did you use the “Replace with AE Comp” function from within PPro?
You may just need to re-import the Dynamic Link to PPro and replace it on the timeline.
I have used this feature a couple of times and it has worked as expected.
Let us know if reimporting it gets it back on track via:
File>Dynamic Link>Import After Effects Composition…– JB
