XDCAM EX files into Premier CS4….problems with mp4?
Hi people,
I have received footage from a camera man using an XDCAM EX.
I want to import the clips into Premier CS4 (PC/Windows).The camera man told me not to edit with MP4’s but they are the only video files I can see in the BPAV folder.
There is conflicting evidence on the internet about how to correctly import these files and whether they should be MXF files or MP4.
Is the correct way to import the complete BPAV directory via the Media Browser in Premier? I tried this – they come in as MP4 and I guess are linking to other data files?
I would really appreciate somone clearing this up and advising me on the correct workflow.

Media browser with the xdcam view to show video icons is the way to go.

I have had good luck with editing native MP4’s from XD-CAM’s. Unless you are doing FX editing with the files, you shouldn’t have many problems.
As far as importing goes, I simply import the BPAV folder straight from PP, PP will grab the files it can use (the mp4 files) and tell you is does not recognize all the other files (which is fine). -
Great thanks – only thing is, you didn’t say if the mp4’s are ok to edit?
These are the only files that come in when I navigate through media browser to XDCAM.

Thanks for the response. Should I go through the media browser to get the BPAV folder rather than File, Import?
Is there any difference?
