Sounds like a video card driver issue. If you have the latest driver you may want to try rolling back a version or two to compare the results. Some of the newest card drivers don’t like CS4. I had that issue on my laptop.

take a look at Cineform solutions if you are using HDV. It upscales the color space to 4:2:2 from HDV native 4:2:0 for better color correction. It has a realtime engine plugin for smoother editing in PPro. CS4 is not supported just yet, but that’s coming.

It sounds like the shots you are experiencing jerky playback are using the incorrect field dominance or the frame rates are off (doubtful as you have used the DLink for the author). You can either find them each and right click them and ask that they have the opposite field first (interpret footage in CS4 can do this now).
Or… You can export with a progressive setting for the file used in the encore author that will sort out the deinterlacing. (in encore go to the trancode settings and select one with
I would run some export test first though. If you are on a PC use PowerDVD to ‘simulate’ the TV playback it usually shows me if there is an interlacing issue on the computer screen. On a Mac is hard, actually I’ve not found a solution to it yet as the deinterlacing and interlacing issues don’t seem to show through DVD Player.

Open a New Project with the correct Seq settings and import the old project in. Find and open the original seq you were editing, it will now be running from the new projects settings.

if you use the audio mixer you can apply a fill effect to the entire audio track and anything that is in that track will use the effect/s applied to that track via the audio mixer. that will save you heaps of time.

Windows Media Player. iTunes. QT Player should playback video without stopping to then type away notes in whatever other app you want to use.

You can make a Multicam sequence using nested sequences.
Place video and audio in sync in its own seq. Do that on all the clips you need to add them into the sequence you want to use as a multicam.

I have strong feeling your project settings are not matching your export settings. If you have a PAL (25fps) project and you just export assuming that first option/s from Media Encoder are going to match the frame rate of your project, chances are it’s some NTSC setting with a 29.97 frame rate. This will create some issues with sync.
Make sure the project and export settings are at least the same.

1st thing. AVI is not a codec its a wrapper, like MOV for Quicktime… anything can be inside it. DV is the most common and probably suit you best. Animation for QT is also very commonly used.
2nd thing. If your hard drives are formatted to FAT32 you are limited to a 4Gig file size anything bigger than that won’t be saved, copied etc.
3rd thing. I am assuming your source footage is either from Youtube or elsewhere. DivX and Xvid are watching/playback formats, not made for editing. You will need to convert anything other than DV should be convertered to be safe. Google converters. there are heaps.
