You will have to read the specs on your Sony Walkman and try and figure out what video formats it supports. Knowing it’s MP4 alone is meaningless because there are multiple profiles and resolutions and all sorts of parameters that could cause it not work. You might have to contact Sony Walkman support. These players (Walkman, Zune, iPod, PSP) all take different video formats and the consumer is left with nothing but incompatibilities. It’s a shame they can’t agree on a standard. See if there is a Walkman forum where someone may have does this already.

This usually happens when the audio uses a codec that Vegas doesn’t support. You will need to use some other program to trans-code these files into a format that Vegas can edit.

Yes. I think it was added in Vegas 7. The key to getting it to work is to render to the same MPEG-2 specs as the source media.

It’s probably the AAC audio that’s doing it. You might want to try processing the files with a utility like MPEG Streamclip or Womble to try and convert the audio into stereo wave or mpeg2 audio.

Don’t be so sure. It’s getting harder and harder to find HD cameras that DON’T shoot AVCHD these days. I would seriously consider upgrading to Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9. You bought a $2,000 camera, a $50 software upgrade seems the quickest path. If the move from Movie Studio 8 to 9 is anything like the move from Vegas 7 to Vegas Pro 8, you will gain significant benefits in working with the HDV from your FX7 as well because Sony has really been improving HD support with every release. I would download the trial of VMSP9 and see if you think it’s worth it. At a minimum you could see if it converts the AVCHD to wave for you. 😉

For music in 4/4 time the equation is:

240 / (number of seconds in one measure) = BPM

The easiest way to calculate this is to listen to the music on the timeline and drop a marker on the downbeat for 2 measures. Then double-click between the markers and Vegas will tell you how long your selection is in the lower right of the timeline. This is the length of one measure. Convert this to seconds and drop it into the equation above. That’s your BPM.

So if one measure is 2 seconds long then 240 / 2 = 120bpm.

This workflow doesn’t make any sense. Just render in Vegas 7 or Vegas Pro 8 and it will NOT render but rather “stitch” the MPEG file back together with no re-encoding at all which preserves the original quality. Vegas calls this “smart rendering”. As long as the output MPEG format matches the input format, it will copy frames instead of rendering.

If you don’t have Vegas Pro then use Womble and it will stitch the file for you. Again, no need to use ProCoder because there is no need to re-encode just cuts.

Yea, it would have helped if I gave you both instructions. (sorry) To reverse the image go into Pan/Crop and right-click on the F and select Flip Horizontal.

Are you using Movie Studio? Movie Studio doesn’t have masking. You should probably tell people what version of Vegas you are using if you are not using Vegas Pro.

What HD camera are the clips from? How did you capture them? Does the camera have a downconvert mode (to SD) and was it enabled when you captured?
