These are just some quick questions I have that I couldn’t learn the answers for myself. Any help will be appreciated greatly.
1. How do I animate zooming on something?
2. How do I flip an image (with it still being animated, of course)?
3. Most importantly, how do I cut out an image and paste it over another one (like say I wanted to give an animated figure another figure’s face).
4. And most basically, how do I group videos? I tried selecting and pressing “G” (like the help menu says), but in the end I have to drag each clip by hand, which gets particularly annoying.Many thanks!

Keyframes. If you are zooming with Pan/Crop (and you should be) look up keyframes in the help file and it will explain how they animate the settings for you.

3D Track Motion. If you really mean flip as in 3D flip and not just reverse the image, then use 3D Track Motion. This will allow you to flip/rotate your video in any direction you want.

Masks. Use the Mask tool in Pan/Crop to draw a bezier mask around the part of the image you want to keep and the rest will disappear. Place this even on a track above the one you want to cover over. Vegas sees tracks from the top down (i.e., the higher tracks block the lower tracks)

You did the right thing. There is an option to Ignore Even Grouping (Ctrl+Shift+U). If you have it enabled the groups will be ignored. Make sure Options | Ignore Event Grouping is disabled, then select all of the events and use the ‘G’ key like you have been.

Actually, I meant to reverse the image.

Correction. I tried all this and none of it worked. I keep getting this F in a circle over my pan/zoom window, there is no mask tool there, and even though I disabled Ignore Event Grouping, I still cannot group.

Masking:
Look at the very bottom left of the Pan/Crop window where you’ll see the words Position and Mask.
Click the empty box beside Mask to activate it.
Search for Bezier in the online help in Vegas for some basic instructions in using this tool.Grouping:
Click the first event you want to group.
Shift-click and select the rest of the desired events.
Press the G key to group them.
Click any of the now grouped events and see if you can move all of them around the timeline.
If this doesn’t work, repeat the click – shift-click process, right-click and select Group – Create New. -

Yea, it would have helped if I gave you both instructions. (sorry) To reverse the image go into Pan/Crop and right-click on the F and select Flip Horizontal.

Are you using Movie Studio? Movie Studio doesn’t have masking. You should probably tell people what version of Vegas you are using if you are not using Vegas Pro.

Click the first event, Ctrl+Click the second event. Press ‘g’. That’s all you need to do. (note: don’t press Shift+g to make a capital G, just lowercase g.)

Thanks, but there is no mask function on Pan/Crop. I use Platinum Studio 9.0.
