If you are using FCP 5, make sure you have the scaling set to highest quality to see the most improvement. I think the default setting is medium quality…the lowest setting being the same as FCP 4.5 and earlier.

FCP’s Uncompressed codecs are not available for Windows.
You can download and install the Windows version of the Blackmagic codecs, which are compatible.

If you dont want to deal with the complexity of the earlier suggestions, you can achieve the same thing as an audio mixdown in Avid using the nest items function. Just select the audio tracks you wish to merge into a stereo pair and select “Nest Items”

You cannot do a real surround mix in FCP. You can (depending on your hardware) monitor multiple channels of audio, but you have no surround panning. FCP cannot work with ac3 or any other compressed audio formats. Use AIFF, Quicktime or WAV.
Edit your project as best you can and export an OMF for your audio editor to complete your sound mix.

Try the DV50 codec (its much better than its DV25 cousin)….it looks great and will save you a ton of drive space. You get RT effects galore.

This has been covered a great deal (search the archives).
Yes, you should convert your audio file to an uncompressed format, such as AIFF or WAV (16 bit 48k Stereo). You can do this with Quicktime Pro, iTunes or Compressor. Don’t use compressed audio in an NLE.

If your client has access to Avid Media Log, you can use that. Using Sebsky Tools (https://www.dharmafilm.com/sebskytools/) you can convert Avid bins to FCP batch lists.
Also take a look at this link…they have a couple of logging products that work with FCP.

do you have a slash “/” in your clip name. in unix, this indicates a volume path which will cause FCP to look for a volume that doesnt exist.

I had this problem too. The only way to fix it was to match frame all the multi clip audio and replace it with the original non-multiclip clips. It seems the xml export chokes on multiclip audio, even if you collapse the multiclip.
