  • Avid Media Log equivalent for FCP? Need clients to log.

Any equivalent of Avid’s Media Log tool for Final Cut, be it third party app, script or otherwise? I did some searches here on the cow and on the net and noted the use of xml as a means to exchange data. Isn’t there a more user friendly way to do this? FCP is in version 5 and yet neither Apple nor a third party developer has stepped up to fill a considerable gap in my workflow.

You can simply log in Excel or any other tab-delimited program. Just make sure the order of the columns for crucial data are in the same order.

If your client has access to Avid Media Log, you can use that. Using Sebsky Tools (https://www.dharmafilm.com/sebskytools/) you can convert Avid bins to FCP batch lists.

Also take a look at this link…they have a couple of logging products that work with FCP.

take some care with Avid Media Log / Sebsky Tools however …. in my experience, if you any log clips with audio tracks A3 or A4 then those clips in the resulting FCP Batch List will not translate correctly.

if you log clips only audio tracks A1 and A2 then its an excellent tool

    cheers

Thanks for all the responses. I did some more searching and came across the Sebsky Tools and Imagine and while both seem like fine products, I was looking for a solution that was both cross platform and cheeeep (okay. free)

I searched the Final Cut Manual with “logging” and “log” as my search terms, and so I missed the entire section on “batch lists”, and important distinction. All i needed was the key search term! I think this is the solution i was looking for. Thanks again for all the quick responses.
