Silly question, but is this acutally film w/pulldown, or 24p footage? or are you trying to do a film-look to regular interlaced footage(which you should not use Cinema Tools for).

The new realtime scopes may be the cause of your issue….luckily you can turn them off or use a less demanding setting.From Apples release notes…
Note:
Using the Playback Scopes Live option requires additional processing power.
Enabling this option could result in a red render bar in the Timeline. Also, the Video
Scopes tab may not update in real time with some formats. For example, playing back
an HDV multiclip requires significant processing power, so the Video Scopes tab may
not update in real time in this situation. -
Oh. I misread. You only have 1GB….I thought it was 2.5GB.
If you have other programs open often…get more…Jerry said 4GB is the sweet spot, and he knows what he’s talking about. I have 2.5, and have no problems at all.
You should NEVER NEVER NEVER use your boot disk as your scratch disk…this is the likely source of your problem.

Your RAM and processor speed are good. What are you using for your scratch disk?
Also, make sure you increase your realtime audio tracks to at least 12 in your preferences (the default is 8, I think).

Yes. Martin is correct. FCP 4.5 did not support multi-channel audio capture (more than two channels). There is no easy fix for this other than to upgrade to FCP 5.x. Sorry.

First of all, you should NOT be using an EDL for this. You should batch digitize from your project file (either the sequence or the offline master clips). EDL’s are for recapturing and editing on other non-FCP systems. You lose a tremendous amount of info, as the EDL protocol was designed for linear tape based edit systems and is only meant to be a bare bones, common denominator description of the edit.
Secondly, FCP is doing exactly what it is supposed to do…building the sequence from the original clips from the original master tapes. Thats how it works. You can choose to recapture with short handles, so that you do not have to digitize the entire original master clip.
