  • Recapturing EDL to FCP 5.1

    Hi,
I recently had to clear all my footage off my drive and played them out to a master tape and exported an EDL. But when I try and import that EDL and recapture it is looking to recapture off the original source tapes of the clips. Is there anyway to make it look for the timecode that they were on on the playout sequnece.

    Anybody able to help,
    Thanks
    Brian

First of all, you should NOT be using an EDL for this. You should batch digitize from your project file (either the sequence or the offline master clips). EDL’s are for recapturing and editing on other non-FCP systems. You lose a tremendous amount of info, as the EDL protocol was designed for linear tape based edit systems and is only meant to be a bare bones, common denominator description of the edit.

Secondly, FCP is doing exactly what it is supposed to do…building the sequence from the original clips from the original master tapes. Thats how it works. You can choose to recapture with short handles, so that you do not have to digitize the entire original master clip.
