If this is for offline, that would be a good codec choice, if you have a capture card that supports it. What capture card are you using?

Latest Avid Codec for Mac and PC
https://www.avid.com/onlineSupport/browse.asp?productID=0&topicID=404&browse=
Do not use this codec with Final Cut Pro 5.1.2, which came out yesterday. There is a crashing bug that has been reported. It works fine with 5.1.1.
Use the Animation codec if you have already updated. -
use the shift fields filter

There is a Kaleidoscope effect available to you if you are using FCP Studio 5.1.2. It’s an FXplug from Motion that is now available in FCP with its new FXplug support in this release.
You need to be using FCP 5.1.2 and have Motion on your system. -
Walter,
Try removing these if you have them…I found this on another forum.
“Ok guys here is the offending Quicktime CODECs that cause FCP 5.1.2 to crash on app start up:
on2vp3.component
XviD_Codec v0.5.1.component
ZyGoVideo.component “ -

From the Release Notes:
Using Video Scopes in Real Time :
Depending on the format of your video and the processing capabilities of your
computer, the Video Scopes tab can update in real time using the same level of quality
available in previous versions of Final Cut Pro.
To enable real-time updating in the Video Scopes tab:
1 -Open a sequence in the Timeline window.
2-In the Timeline, choose Playback Scopes Live from the RT pop-up menu.Note: Using the Playback Scopes Live option requires additional processing power.
Enabling this option could result in a red render bar in the Timeline. Also, the Video
Scopes tab may not update in real time with some formats. For example, playing back
an HDV multiclip requires significant processing power, so the Video Scopes tab may
not update in real time in this situation.
Video Scopes Restrictions and PerformanceThe following list describes limitations when using video scopes in Final Cut Pro:
For the Playback Scopes Live option:
Your editing system requires an AGP or PCI Express graphics card. Some older
PCI graphics cards may not have enough processing power to update the Video
Scopes tab in real time. You must be using a supported real-time format. For a list of formats that
Final Cut Pro can process in real time, choose Final Cut Pro > System Settings, then
click Effect Handling. The View pop-up menu in the Video Scopes tab must be set to Current Frame
(referring to the Canvas) or Viewer. Options such as Current Frame w/o Filters and
Previous Edit disable the Playback Scopes Live option.Video scopes accuracy:
You can analyze all video lines only when playback is stopped or when scrubbing.
The Playback Scopes Live option updates the Video Scopes tab using the Select
Pixels (Fastest) option. For more information, see -
[Dave Groenier] “Can you tell me more about this ALE export, is that an Avid Xpress Pro function”
Yes. It’s an Avid function…you can export any Bin as an ALE file. For specific instructions, use Avid Help…I am not in front of an Avid now

Export your Avid bins as ALE’s. Then use the above software to convert to FCP batch lists.
Its free!

September 27, 2006 at 4:33 am in reply to: Cinema Tools conforms but does not lengthen durationCinema Tools is only for footage shot in 24p, 24p Advanced or Film transfered with 3:2 pulldown. It is not for converting normal 29.97 footage into progressive. If I am understanding what you are trying to do correctly, you are using the wrong tool.
If you are trying to use 29.97 footage that is not progressive in a 23.97 progressive timeline, you can use this plug in to conform it.
https://nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
or use After Effects.
My apologies if I am misunderstanding what you are trying to do.
