You cant open a version 5 project in version 4.5.
You can export an XML 1.0 file from FCP 5 and open it in FCP 4.5.

create a new bin, then drag all the clips into it. do the reel numbers return?
I believe reel numbers are embedded in the media file, so I dont think they are gone.

You cant change this behavior.
Give Compressor a chance…once you set it up, its not fussy at all. You can even set up a droplet, if you like…then all you have to do is export a reference movie from FCP and drag it to the droplet. It can even run in the background while you continue to work.

I gave this option to someone for a different unwanted filter and it worked with no harm done. Just remember to put it back when you are done with this project.

If you are absolutely sure these timecode breaks are phantoms, you can turn off FCP’s behavior of making a new clip.
Just change it in your preferences to “Warn after capture”

Not sure if your laptop can play this mini-sized DVD, but assuming it can, you really dont need FCP for this, if you have DVDSP.
Copy the VIDEO_TS folders from both discs onto your hard drive.
Use MPEG Streamclip (available free) to demultiplex the relevant video files. Assemble them onto a video track (or tracks) in DVDSP and create a new DVD.
You should have your client assume the risk for repair, if this mini-sized disc gets stuck in your computer.

thats the way it works….you cant make a new subclip without a new consolidated master clip.

Yes, but only when you are running Windows. Those viruses wont work when you are running OSX. You do need to take all the anti virus measures that PC users use when running Windows on an Intel Mac.
