  • If you have a later version of Nero, import them into Nero Vision, their rudimentary NLE, via Make Movie. Then you can export them to Cinema AVC which is 1280 x 720, or, either Nero Digital or Nero Digital AVC at 1920 x 1080. They will look and play fine in Vegas 8. The Nero Showtime player does a good job with all of these files.

Maybe our Cow Vegas leaders could rig up an online Vegas users survey. What version are you currently running? What OS? Are you crashing frequently (define this), etc.

Take a look at Upshift, located on the VASST site. May solve your editing problems.

I have Vegas 8.0b installed on 9 different Vista and XP Pro workstations in my two studios and we have no crashing problems – none! Vegas has been, by far, the most stable NLE that we have used, and that goes back to version 2.

If you use Adobe Illustrator, you will find several Arrow brushes that are great for using in a transparent file.

Vegas has always felt very fluid to me, compared to several other NLE’s that I own, including Premiere. I always come back to it after trying updates on the others. Hoping that the upcoming 64 bit version of Vegas, on a fast 64 bit PC, will speed things up even more!

I agree fully with John on going with Intel procs and mboards. I have put together 2 such systems in the past year and have had absolutely no issues, and that is with Vista Ultimate as the OS. You can assemble some nice components with plenty of ram (very cheap right now) and build a very powerful Vegas machine for under $1,500. Your hardware should be 64bit capable, and, if you install the 64bit version of Windows Vista, ready for the 64 bit version of Vegas which is supposedly being released this fall. At that time, the 64 bit architecture should allow for use of more than the 4 gigabytes of ram currently limited by Windows XP and Vista 32bit systems.

July 24, 2008 at 4:33 pm in reply to: AVCHD Quicktime File Crashing Vegas

Thanks, guys. I shoot both HDV and AVCHD from Sony and Panasonic units. This little Casio is something of a hybrid, shoots video up to 1200 fps (300 fps usable) in near SD (no audio) and is a 6MP still camera with an amazingly fast shutter and multiple burst rates. It’s HD looks pretty good. A call to Casio Tech guys was fruitless. Hoping 8.0c solves it. Meanwhile, will give the Nero conversion a try and keep shooting 720p if it doesn’t.

Am assuming that these are video clips and not stills, but, very large stills that Vegas can’t handle can do this.
