I’ve tried them both but can’t seem to find any great flaws or strong points in either of them…

Although Vegas seems to handle HDV footage better, Premiere seems to be more organized.

Can anyone list me the pros/cons or tell me which NLE is better for professional video editing (HDV, HD, etc)? I want to edit on the software that is going to get me the highest quality output possible.

I don’t really care what most pros use, as I’m pretty much a one man band, so what would be the best NLE for me?

Tough question. Speed of use; Vegas-hands down with change back.
Featureset? Premiere has a slight edge.
    Suite integration; Premiere, hands-down
Speed of render, system resource use;Vegas.
    Formats accepted and mixed;Vegas
    Sexy wow factor; Premiere
Media Management; Vegas *can* win this one, but Premiere has a more user-friendly manager, IMO. But…Vegas is much faster at locating/assembling shots.
Learning curve; debatable, but Vegas wins this one too, IMO.
Output quality on both is the same. It’s digital. Vegas has a no-recompress for HDV and XDCAM, so it’s very fast, but it’s the same quality coming out as what goes in.

    Tyler,
As you found out for yourself, that vegas handles HDV more effeciently,
along with very accurate key factors and comparisons laid out by Douglas:
Added that Adobe Premier has a much wider support for third party plugins: Vegas has very good compositing features to handle basic
    to mid-level compositing needs:
You then now need to make your own personal assessment,
according to your needs. Both are good: Both output the
same pristine quality. So which ever you find more
comfortable and you can get things done faster and
easier. (you know which i would recommend…but it is
up to you…offering you an unbiased assessment).

Vegas has always felt very fluid to me, compared to several other NLE’s that I own, including Premiere. I always come back to it after trying updates on the others. Hoping that the upcoming 64 bit version of Vegas, on a fast 64 bit PC, will speed things up even more!
