Thought you all might appreciate the info (or rumor) but when I called up Sony to ask about some other freatures in the MS9 version I asked about 64bit in pro, and when that was going to be supported.

I was told that 9 Pro is supposed to include 64bit when it is released but they were having more bugs than expected, which has delayed its release.

But I’ll tell you, I’m looking forward to accessing ALL the memory on my system, and possibly adding another 4 gig, just for the sake of overkill. 🙂

As with all major software upgraded release….It has a few bugs to
smooth out and issues to fine tune before its release to the public.
So when an upgrade is delayed, its a good thing.

I completely agree. Nothing worse than paying hundreds of dollars for high end software and have it bug out on you. I’d rather wait a few months and get something that’s stable and reliable.

My excitement, however is about the 64bit support of the next version. In fact I built my whole editing machine around the hope of using a 64 bit editor. But the ones which claim 64bit support currently don’t do it well.

Well don’t worry. When vegas64 comes, both you and your
    editing machine wont be disappointed.

Crash Record? Vegas is the most stable of all existing NLE’s
Pros and Cons exists….But is the most stable.

    Steve,

VP8 hasn’t been very stable for many of the HDV and avchd users. Nothing but doom and gloom over on the SCS Vegas forum.

    Rob,
I am very much aware of the ‘dooms and gloom’ posted over at the
SCS Vegas forum. But my point remains the same for numerous reasons.

Maybe I haven’t been at it long enough to say for certain, but I edit AVCHD video and I’ve only had one crash that lost any of my work. and two total. (That was MS 8)

I now use MS 9 and the worst that’s happened was ONE time the rendering just stopped progressing for some unexplained reason.

I hate to differ but I have been in contact with the people at Sony on many levels and the number one complaint is the huge PF problems and illegal memory allocations. Yes the program is good but it is not stable by any means. It has routinely and inexplicable crashed with no warning on several machines that we have it loaded on. They are all different types of systems so there was no common thread. To add to the frustrations it would lock up on import of Mpg files it had converted from disc import.

A quick search of any of the blogs and you will see the same thing over and over again. In my talks with Sony over many months trying to help them understand and take action the rep finally gave up and said it is in the hands of the developers and they know about it. There own techs tell you to search the forums for answers so what does that tell you?

The reality is new software is beta tested by the users and these companies expect you an I to find work around solutions. They all do it and we have to live with it. Version 9 wont help.

Again I like the software, it has lots of bugs, but also lots of good points.

I have Vegas 8.0b installed on 9 different Vista and XP Pro workstations in my two studios and we have no crashing problems – none! Vegas has been, by far, the most stable NLE that we have used, and that goes back to version 2.
