One of my HD cameras, a Casio EX-F1 DSLR form factor unit, records AVCHD as a .MOV file at 1920 x 1080i and at 720p. The 720p works fine in Vegas 8.0c, but the 1080i turns a heavy green cast when placed on the timeline and immediately crashes the app. The only media players that play these 1080i without any problems are Arcsoft’s Total Media Extreme, which came with the camera, and Nero Showtime, (I use Nero 6.6 version). The rudimentary editor included in Nero, Vision, handles these files just fine. Even the latest Quicktime player has issues, and, I have the latest Quicktime Pro installed as well. My main test workstation is a Core 2 Duo 6600 with 2 GB of ram, running on Vista Ultimate which has been rock solid. Anyone?

You mean Vegas 8.0b….from what you have described….no amount of tweaking or fix is gonna make vegas and these files any friendlier.
Version 8.0c will be coming out soon with new fixes, including one
to make such file formats as these and others more compatible in
    vegas.
In the meantime, nothing is wrong to use nero vision to convert these files into a format that vegas is happy with.

I agree with Steve, use Nero to convert these files to something editable. In general, video from still image cameras are non-standard and difficult to work with. You might consider buying a camcorder if you are serious about editing videos.

Thanks, guys. I shoot both HDV and AVCHD from Sony and Panasonic units. This little Casio is something of a hybrid, shoots video up to 1200 fps (300 fps usable) in near SD (no audio) and is a 6MP still camera with an amazingly fast shutter and multiple burst rates. It’s HD looks pretty good. A call to Casio Tech guys was fruitless. Hoping 8.0c solves it. Meanwhile, will give the Nero conversion a try and keep shooting 720p if it doesn’t.

    Hi
Check out AVCHD Upshift from Vasst.

Guess I’m lucky in that I just bought a new MacBookPro and Final Cut Express. I understand that FCE and the new intel based MAC will natively edit AVCHD stuff but not owning a camera that shoots it I don’t know for sure.
