Your i/o card probably has a framesync which “stabilizes” the video signal so FCP is happy.

Compressor encodes mv2 and ac3 files for a DVD faster than real time on my 8-core machine. You can adjust the encode bit rate in Compressor so you can fit four hour-long programs on one DVD at better than VHS quality. However, IMHO, BitVice will do the very best low bit rate encodes.

Export self-contained QT (not QT Conversion) using current settings. Drag that file into Compressor. Choose the Best-quality preset of your choice and submit. You can turn on Frame Controls and adjust it to increase quality (and encode time). Take the resultant mv2 and ac3 files into DVDSP to author the DVD. Search to the find specific steps of how to adjust Frame Controls and the ac3 preset (very important).

Sometimes the frame rate of your video can beat with the frame rate of your computer display to produce less than desirable results. It can look great on a broadcast monitor, but funky in places when playing back on the computer.

I agree with Jerry. Test it. Compare the component out (or s-video) of the player to an MPEG Streamclip export of the DVD’s VOB to ProRes.

One noise print won’t work throughout the scene. Every time the character of the bkg noise changes, you need to take a new noise print, apply noise reduction to that section and move on. Playing with the noise threshold and reduction controls, work to achieve the balance you want.
