Error: Out of Memory
Posted by Carlos Castro on September 1, 2010 at 2:54 pmI have seen this bad boy for the last 24 hrs as I have tried just about everything I can think of.
I’m trying to render out some footage from my sequence and no matter whether it is the whole 6 minutes of video or 8 seconds I get the same Error: Out of Memory.I have trash my setting, switched sequence settings, did a PRAM reset, double check the disk space where I’m rending to and still have the same problem.
can anyone help please?

September 1, 2010 at 3:45 pmWhen this happens for me it’s usually a corrupt media file or a picture file in the sequence that causes it. Unfortunately there’s no good way of finding it besides some trial and error.
Generally to find the problem clip in the sequence, I set an in and out point at the beginning of the show and end of the first act (in you’re case maybe the first minute). If all exports correctly, I move the out point to the end of the next act (second minute for you) and export again. If it fails, I now know the bad clip is between the fist and second act. Then I move my in and out and narrow down exactly which clip is causing the error. Once it’s found, you can usually re-cut the clip in and it will solve it. If it’s a large photo, export it as a self contained QT if you can and cut it back in.
Good luck and be glad it’s only a 6 minute piece and not a 2 hour feature.

September 1, 2010 at 4:01 pmThanks Mike,
I will try that again in a different section of the sequence. I have tried that but not on the opposite
side of the sequence. Its extremely frustrating. Thanks

September 1, 2010 at 7:51 pmCheckout Digital Rebellion’s FCS Maintenance Pack. It has a Corrupt File Finder as well as other helpful maintenance programs.

September 1, 2010 at 11:25 pmWell John that seems to have treated half of the problem. I can mark an in and out point, hit Command S or go to the pull down menu it will render fine, as soon as I hit Option R on the keyboard or the pull down menu it gives me the same error.
Go figure.

September 2, 2010 at 12:02 amAs has been reported here many times, the Memory Error message pops up when it is trying to render files that exceed 4k. This is not uncommon with tiff or jpeg stills or graphics in the FCP timeline. It can be made worse by adding plugins/ filters etc.
So check your clips and see if there are any that exceed the 4k limit. A search of the forum would have shown this often reported advice.

September 2, 2010 at 12:38 amDid you check your clips for 4k+ media? If you have big stills then you need to resize them to something less than 4K to get them to render.

September 2, 2010 at 12:59 amI have about 50 tiff’s and none is more than 58 MB’s. I find it interesting that it will let me render but only if I mark a region with either the pull down menu or with the command S key stroke but not option R.
