If the shot is locked you can try a difference key. Also checkout the Edge Work filter in the Stylize menu. It’s not exactly what you want, but you might be able to build on it.

I’m not sure about using a pdf in FCP6, but it works in FCP7. Try it and see. To do what you want, make a white (less than 100%) background with the Color Solid generator and place it on V1. Use the Boris Title 3D generator on V2 to make your black text. Drag the pdf onto V3 and size and position it using the Motion tab. That’s the basics. Specific steps can be found in the manual or by searching the Cow.

Try it and see. Make a new sequence 1920×1080, then copy all the tracks in your current sequence, and paste them into the new sequence. Then you’ll see the result. FCP doesn’t scale well so if you have to resize a lot of clips you may not like the results. In the future it’d be a good idea to convert all your footage to 1920×1080 first, then edit. I’d use Compressor to do that. And you’d also make your graphics the same size rather than resize them.

Have you trashed prefs & repaired permissions? I’m also thinking the deck’s heads may be dirty or out of alignment. Cleaning isn’t hard. You can use a cleaning tape, or you can do it manually if you know how to open the deck and clean the heads. But, don’t try that unless you know what you’re doing. If you can borrow a deck or camera, try capturing that way as a test. If that works, and your deck still has problems after being cleaned, you probably need to get the deck serviced. Heads and the guides in tape path are mechanical systems and do go out of alignment with use.

Okay, I understand. I think your best way to do this is use speed controls (Cmd + J) in FCP to slow down the animation. Then export that at your full frame rate. I first thought you might use Cinema Tools to conform the video, but I think it just addresses standard video frame rates which 26 and 12 fps aren’t. Still, checkout Shane Ross’ just published tutorial on using Cinema Tools. That might be a good way to go in the future.

What’s the starting frame rate – the frame rate of your edit sequence? Are you trying to slow down the footage? For instance, play 24 fps at 12 fps, thereby, slowing it down by half. If not, I’d expect frames to be dropped to get to 12 fps. Also, I suggest not using QT Conversion. Instead, Export a Self-contained QT and then use Compressor to make your mp4 from that file.

Hmm, since you can control the deck your device control must be selected correctly and the 422 cable to the deck is working. Try trashing prefs and repairing permissions if you haven’t already. If you have Disk Warrior run that, too. That’s what I do when FCP starts acting up.
