  • How to do effect silhouette effect?

Posted by Daniel Grixti on September 2, 2010 at 12:26 pm

    Hi there,

I am just wondering if anyone can tell me how to create a certain effect.

I have some footage of people dancing and I want to turn them into a silhouette. They are not in front of a green screen or solid colour.

I also want to have a number of outlines around the silhouetted figures.

Any ideas on how to achieve this would be much appreciated.

The iPod commercial has been discussed many times …

It’s not going to be easy with footage that wasn’t shot for that purpose.

If the shot is locked you can try a difference key. Also checkout the Edge Work filter in the Stylize menu. It’s not exactly what you want, but you might be able to build on it.

Always easier to advise if you can post a still frame sample shot. You might try the 3-way color corrector to select and exaggerate lights and darks, and use its selector tool to tint everything one of two shades.

An effect that may help is covered in my Motion blog about a project I did. It has short description of how it was done: Motion in Action
