Should exporting take this long? Best Method?
I recently made the mistake of shooting a series of 20 hour long lectures with my ex3. The mistake was I unnecessarily shot in full 1080p.
Now when I’m trying to export as a quicktime movie H.264 (downconvert to 720×480) it’s taking 5-6 hours for each export.
My MacPro has duel 2.8 Quad-core processor with 6GB 800mhz ram.
Should it be taking this long when all i’m trying to get is a SD version of these?Is there a better exporting method that will speed up the process significantly, when quality is not top concern. I would still like them to look good, just doesn’t have to be HD perfect.
When I export as a QT reference file each file is between 12-14GB a piece. I need to compress and fit as many as I can onto a DVD.Thanks

Try sending the timeline to Compressor. There is a preset for standard definition that should be faster.

Compressor encodes mv2 and ac3 files for a DVD faster than real time on my 8-core machine. You can adjust the encode bit rate in Compressor so you can fit four hour-long programs on one DVD at better than VHS quality. However, IMHO, BitVice will do the very best low bit rate encodes.
