Adding to Michael, the software is called Wave Agent. It’s in their download area, as well as instructions how to use with M1/2 and newer OSs.

You don’t say if you are using an FCP or third-party title. I know some third-party titles only extend so far. The same may be true of certain FCP titles. It may be a function of the resolution of the FCP project and the resolution of the title not being the same.

An easy way to accomplish what you want is to create the title in Motion and Publish it for use in FCP. When you open Motion and select Title, Motion will open with a Group containing a drop zone layer, and a title layer. I’d delete the drop zone (usually used for a full screen background image) and replace it with the subtitle background you want. Then, using the Inspector, adjust the title layer to the position, size and style you want. You can then Publish all those parameters, so you can change them in FCP. There are a lot of tutorials online that explain the details, if you’re unfamiliar with them.

If all you have in the frame is the 3D title, you need to export with a codec that has an alpha channel. Try exporting with ProRes 4444. That should work.

When I want to setup a different aspect ratio, I find it’s best to start with a fresh project (CMD+N). I input the aspect I want (and resolution) and everything works as expected.

The folders are in the Motion Templates folder in this path: User>Movies>Motion Templates>Titles. Generators, Effects, & Transitions. They are not in the Library. Note, there are two Motion Templates folders in my Movies folder. Cinema Grade installed that for some unknown reason. You probably only have one Motion Templates folder. If you have two, it’s the one with the Titles, Generators, etc. in it.

If you delete them from the Titles, Generators, Effects and Transitions folders, they should be gone. However, some may not be in those folders. Then, look in Library>Plugins>FxPlug. Some might be there. There may be other places they are placed, but I can’t find my notes about that. Hope this helps.

If you have an XML file of the FCP 7 project, there’s a program called 7toX which might work for you. I’ve never used it, but have read it’s worked for some. Here’s a link.

I agree with Eric. You’re underpowered for Resolve. Resolve System Requirements.

  • Checkout Shutter Encoder. Runs on Intel and M1. It’s free and works on many OSs. I’ve used it for a few years.
