  • Another option for upscaling up to 6X is Topaz Labs’ Gigapixel. There’s a free trial.

This would be a bit of a pain, but you could rename each slo-mo clip with SM01…SMxx. Then you’d see them all in the timeline index.

In addition, to see it play fullscreen on click Shift+CMD+F.

  • I don’t see the images for some reason. My thought is there may be hidden keyframes further down the clip. Try stretching the right edge of the clip to the right. You may find keyframes, especially, if the clip, or a later portion of the clip, was used elsewhere in your project.

  • There’s an app for Final Cut Pro called Captionator on the App Store, which I believe uses a local library. It’s a bit of a pain to format the captions, but its accuracy is pretty good.

Try searching online for keyable footage of dust motes. I think that’s what you’d see in a spotlight beam. I’ve seen that somewhere, but can’t think of the vendor.

I agree with Ben. Topaz Labs’ Video AI does a great job uprez-ing. It’s on sale for Cyber Monday.

The still programs like Gigapixel AI work as plugins in Photoshop (and maybe others) as well as standalone. AFAIK, Video AI only works as standalone.

My first experience with a Topaz Labs’ product was Gigapixel which upscaled still images. It was incredible. I upscaled a small jpeg 600%, and the result was much better than the original.

When a video project came up that required upscaling, I purchased Video Enhance AI (pre-cursor to Video AI) a few years ago. It’s amazing. Not only does it uprez, but it de-blurs, de-noises and makes other positive picture improvements. I’ve used it with bad footage and in my experience, the result has looked better than the original.

I was editing an HD project and after watching a wide shot, the director asked me if we could zoom in to lose part of the foreground. As it required a 40% zoom in, I up-rezed the HD clip to 4K, which I then used in the HD timeline. After zooming in, the result looked exactly like the original HD.

I’ve been recommending Topaz Labs’ products for years. I’ve used them for forensic projects, and they shine. Topaz Labs has fully functional trials, so see for yourself.

  • I thought FCP did better on some than Resolve, and vice-versa. I have four audio restoration plugin packages: iZotope RX 10 Advanced, Waves Restoration bundle, Waves Clarity Vx Pro and Acon Digital Restoration Suite 2. The reason I have this many is I’ve found, with certain more complex noise, that they give me choices. And usually, one stands out. I think that Resolve has an edge here since it will be able to use all these plugins in Fairlight while FCP isn’t happy with some of them.
