There are a number of solutions that can restore clipped audio.

January 27, 2009 at 11:31 pm in reply to: Micing a Classical Singer

I’d suggest the MKH 418S and see if you can hang it from the ceiling. The trick will be finding the right spot. Will there be a rehearsal where you can try out various mic positions? If so, record a bit from each spot you think will work and then listen back after the rehearsal with your client. Record from a stand during the rehearsal so you can get the mic up in the air. Take careful notes of each position so you can hang the mic properly for the recital. I hope this helps.

Sorenson Media Squeeze for Flash is another option if you don’t have CS3 or 4. https://www.sorensonmedia.com/products/?pageID=1&ppc=2 Be sure to use the On2 VP6 codec when you encode for the highest quality with either encoder.

January 25, 2009 at 9:49 pm in reply to: Multiple audio dissolves

I’m not in front of my edit computer right now, but I think this is right. If you highlight the junction of two clips then hit Option Command T it should insrt a 1-sec audio cross-fade. Double-click the transition to change its duration. To copy a transition from one edit point to another, try holding down the Option key while dragging the existing transition to another edit point. I think that works, too.

January 19, 2009 at 10:22 pm in reply to: Capturing Audio Separate From Video

If it were me, I’dcapture to a camera. That way you know you’ll be in sync. If it’s easier to use the Firebox, run a test. Set up a camera and shoot your TV for however long the event will be. Get sound to the cam thru its mic and also record the sound thru your Firebox to your computer. Then lay the files against each other and see if they’re in sync at the end. If they are you should be good to go. Please report back on your results.
