    Hi all,

I have Final Cut Pro 6.0, Mac G5 PowerPC OS 10.4.11 and I want to know how best to make a Flash (FLV) file from either a FCP timeline or a Quicktime file. Can you advise me what program I should obtain? Presently, my FCP does not offer a FLV file option in File Export.

    Thanks!

Hi, you can export the reference video from FCP and import it into Adobe Flash Video Encoder. It comes with the CS3/CS4 suite. In the Encoder you can specify the settings of the video.

Sorenson Media Squeeze for Flash is another option if you don’t have CS3 or 4. https://www.sorensonmedia.com/products/?pageID=1&ppc=2 Be sure to use the On2 VP6 codec when you encode for the highest quality with either encoder.

Thank you for those options. I was thinking CS3 or 4 would do it.

Another option is ‘Episode’. I’ve been using that and it works great. It also does just about any other format you could need. And it’s smoking fast!

Depends on what you want to do with or expect to accomplish with your FLV.

Flash Player will recognize H.264 natively.
You can also change the extension on lots of different codecs to >flv and Flash will open them.

If you’re expecting miraculous file compression like you get out of vector-based swf, forget it.

Thanks for the information on Episode. Do you have any comparison experience between Episode and CS 3/4 or Sorenson Squeeze? i.e. the quality of the Flash file–is it better than these other programs?

    Many thanks!

No, I haven’t compared them, but I do have Autodesk Cleaner and Episode is much faster for doing most other conversions.
