Are the pictures in sync? Try dragging them both into a timeline and compare where the edits happen toward the end. I wonder if there was a sync issue during the telecine.

The Panasonic HPX300 at B&H Photo is $7700. You need to add a P2 card or 2. Current 16GB is $800, but the just introduced E models are much less expensive (approx $420 for a 16GB card) and shipping next month. The DVCPro HD codec is an intra-frame codec. This means the camera records discrete frames rather than occasional keyframes in groups of pictures as with the inter-frame codec Sony prefers. This makes a huge difference when editing.

I think that Save button only affects the LCD screen on the side of the 500. The other things I’d check are that the cable to the viewfinder is securely connected to the camera. Also jiggle the cable and see if that affects the viewfinder. There are 5 controls on the front that adjust brightness etc. Turn them all back and forth a couple of times. Although your camera can’t be more than 2 years-old, perhaps one of those controls is dirty and causing the problem.

There’s no simple fix for your issue. The sound might be improved with some careful eq. Also, adding some compression might even out gain variations. But, as you raise the gain to make the voice more present, you also raise the ambient noise, so using noise reduction software would also help out. These tools are available in ST Pro, but I suggest you find an audio professional in your area to help out.

I’ve never tried doing that. My only thought is to nest the multiple tracks, copy the nest and paste attributes to the new track. Hope that helps.

Basically they want a mix minus the English VO/commentary. They use the voice track for guiding the translator, record new VO and drop it in. All music and effects remain in place and can be mixed as necessary. Typically, you’d merge all your tracks into three tracks (6 if stereo): VO, music and effects. You can do this in FCP by exporting sets of audio tracks as aiffs and then import them to replace the multiple tracks. That would leave just the 3 or 6 tracks of audio. I’m sure their delivery specs will be fairly specific about the technical specs they want.

Trash prefs, repair permissions and run Disk Warrior. If you don’t have it, order it. To me, it’s the one indispensable program to have if you’rea Mac user. It’s saved my bacon many times. A great program.

The card or device would depend on your workflow. If you will be capturing from tape vs. transferring from P2 or other storage card format. I’d recommend any AJA product https://aja.com/, but there are good choices from Blackmagic Design, too https://www.blackmagic-design.com/ .

After you have your card/outboard device you could attach your Genelecs directly to the card output, although, I’d NOT recommend doing that. You wouldn’t have good control of the monitors that way and could easily overload them. You should have a mixer that will accept inputs from any machine, mics, etc. The output of your card would go to inputs on the mixer as well. You’ll monitor through the mixer and direct its outputs to your Genelecs. An option without a mixer would be a Mackie Big Knob https://www.mackie.com/products/bigknob/. You plug the card output into the Big Knob and its output to the Genelecs. It allows you to pick various inputs and send to different outputs. You get very nice volume control and talkback to a studio or booth if you have one. But, again, I’d suggest a mixer as you have much more flexibility, especially if you have machine or mic inputs you want to direct to FCP for capturing.
