    Use crop with feathered edge? Biggest challenge is matching each shot’s video parameters (gain, black level, etc,) so the image around each lady doesn’t look different from its neighbor. In your image the two outside ladies look pretty good, but the inside ladies don’t match well. I’d try the 3-way color corrector or Color to make the match. Keyframing masks would be a lot of work.

    It’s possible the distortion is in the signal playing on your TV monitor. Have you looked at the image in underscan? It may be the cowling of your monitor is cutting off that portion of the image that has the distorsion.

    How is the PD-150 connected to your iMac? Is it the same camera that shot the footage? What are your capture settings?

    Have you trashed prefs and repaired permissions? It’s the first thing I do whenever FCP acts strangely. Also run Disk Warrior. Do you have a capture card or other I/O device besides the Mbox? Maybe that could cause a conflict.

    Howard, I’m glad you could work around your issue. Rendering to change the timebase is a bear. Here’s what you do to tranfer your keyframes from one clip to another. It’s called pasting attributes. BTW you can also use it to clear the attributes of a clip or clips (Remove Attributes). First, highlight the clip and copy it (Cmd C). Then select the clip (or clips) to which you want to copy the keyframes. Then Paste Attributes (Opt-V). A dialog box will open with choices of which attributes to paste. Check the ones you want. This is also helpful if you want to paste volume settings or filter settings from one clip to many.

    The camera will shoot DVCPro 50. If that’s the delievry format why not just shoot that. Then you avoid having to convert HD to SD. I know the camera will record DVCPro 50 to a P2 card, but I don’t know if it will record it to tape.

    I’m not an expert at changing time bases. Fortunately through luck and planning all my projects have had media with only one time base. From what I’ve read in other threads, don’t just drag your 23.98 file into your 29.97 sequence.

    Use Compressor first to turn the 23.98 into 29.97 or vice-versa. In Compressor’s Inspector in the Frame Control turn on the frame controls. Then select best for all settings and let Compressor work. It will take a while. Of course, be sure to select the correct codec and have the frame rate set to 29.97 in the Encoder tab.

    There are many posts about doing this and I recommend you check them out for the exact workflow.

    A sync signal, also known as reference (ref) sync or black, should be fed to the cameras, switcher and the AJA card. This signal is what keeps all the signals synced so you don’t experience drift.

    Files that large are cumbersome to work with and FCP isn’t the greatest at scaling. Even of you plan to zoom/pan/etc. on the image and need the resolution use Photoshop to down-size it appropriately.
