    While I’ve downloaded P2CMS, I’ve never used it. P2 Genie was the first transfer software we used. Now it’s Shotput P2. It’s great advantage is it does a byte-by-byte verification of the transferred media. And, you can transfer the data to up to 3 drives simultaneously. We transfer all P2 data to a two-drive RAID1 array and a second separate drive. After a shoot, both drives are hand-carried by different people.

    Login to PASS and see if there’s a manual there. https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/p2ui/Login.do

    If you can’t find the info there, you can purchase Shotput P2 which is a great program that automates off-loading P2 cards. https://www.imagineproducts.com/ShotPut_P2_Edition.html

    You can also manually copy the data from the card to a hard drive. Make a folder on your drive and name it for your project, for instance Project_01. You’ll make a new folder for each P2 card you shot. Then drag the Contents folder AND the lastclip file into Project_01. Similarly, drag the contents and lastclip from the 2nd P2 into Project_02 and so on for all your cards. Then use your NLE system to Log & Transfer (if you use FCP) the clips from each project folder. Other NLEs have similar processes.

    You might want to also specifiy the frame rate you want. I believe the 200 will shoot 60i, 24p or 30p.

    If you want the program to play from the DVD you need to use Compressor to encode a mv2 and an ac3 file of the program and then use DVD Studio Pro to make a DVD using the mv2 and ac3 files.

    If on the other hand you want the DV data to be on a DVD to bring it somewhere or archive it, use Toast or a similar app to put it onto two DVDs. Toast will make it so the file can be reassembled later.

    If you Log & Transfer on FCP5 and open the project in FCP6 and point to the same scratch drive you should be fine. The media will be the same quality on both.

    In the Inspector it’s the third tab from the left. Click the button to the right of Frame Controls then click the bar that says “off” to turn it on. Then choose Best everywhere you can. If you can’t see the Inspector turn it on in the Window menu, Show Inspector.

    Find a couple of contractors in your area and call them up for a consult. It shouldn’t cost anything for a general talk – especially if it might lead to work down the road. Local folks will know local code requirements, etc.

    Test with some of the scene files from Panasonic that come with the camera before changing any settings. If you check out the PASS website, https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/p2ui/Login.do you can download the scene file handbook. It explains how to adjust settings. Also check your gain setting on the camera, If it’s set to boost you’ll have more grain.

    Did you have Frame Controls enabled in Compressor with all the quality choices set to Best? That’s important to get a quality conversion. However, the conversion’s going to take some time.
