Hello, I have a project that is a 1920 1080 Uncompressed 10 bit 23.98 file that I need to put onto Mini-DV tape and I need some workflow advice to output for a screening tonight! I have tried to export a movie file using compressor in Anamorphic DV format, Apple ProRes and the Intermediate formats and then I imported these files back into a DV timeline of 4:3 aspect ratio and 29.97 fps. This worked and created an automatic letterbox however the image was degraded with interlacing and whenever I had digital pans over still photos (ken burns effect, etc) it became a jerky movie–like step printing–instead of a smooth glide.
I can’t play the Uncompressed file directly from the timeline as it is too heavy so I need to convert it to something to play it from the timeline and output it on Mini-Dv. What workflow would you recommend and what codec would play the smoothest and sharpest when going from progressive 23.98 HD to interlaced 29.97 DV?

    H.264?
APple Intermediate Codec? (“for interlaced material” or “for progressive material”)
ProRes? (“for interlaced material” or “for progressive material”)
    an Mpeg type?
    Anamorphic DV?
    Other?

    Thank you!

Did you have Frame Controls enabled in Compressor with all the quality choices set to Best? That’s important to get a quality conversion. However, the conversion’s going to take some time.

    Oscar,
I think that the easiest way is to drop the HD movie in a 23’98 DV 4×3 sequence.
On printing to video FC should add the Pulldown.
Confirm this info please, because i”m a PAL-lander.

    Oscar,

Why don’t you just make a 23.98 DVD?

    Have a wonderful day.

I am using Compressor 3. Can’t find “Frame Controls” settings? Could you please direct me?
    Thanks,
    Oscar

One of the tabs in the Inspector.
The option pointed by Chris would be the easiest.

In the Inspector it’s the third tab from the left. Click the button to the right of Frame Controls then click the bar that says “off” to turn it on. Then choose Best everywhere you can. If you can’t see the Inspector turn it on in the Window menu, Show Inspector.
