This sounds like a 2K file, but the dimensions aren’t correct. Here’s sa link to an overview of 2K on the AJA site:
    https://www.aja.com/pdf/support/AJA_2K_whitepaper.pdf

Not sure what Mac processor you’re using, but FCP5.1.4 probably can’t deal with this kind of file (or ProRes). Hopefully, folks with more experience with the 2K format will chime in.

Tell us more about your system. What OS, version of FCP, kind of drive and type of connection, etc. If both your drive and camera are connected at the same time to your Firewire bus, that could be your problem as Macs have only one FW bus regardless of how many FW ports are on the machine. A slow drive could also cause dropped frames, but usually not a second’s worth at a time.

Check if there’s a delay setting in the plasma setup menu as well.

CGM has one called Spotlight 3D in CGM DVE FX and Noise Industries has one in NI Stylize. I don’t know if you can get these plugs individually. They’re each probably part of a package of FX. I think Victor’s ideas is a good one.

There are many threads about this. So do a search to find more complete info. I’ve not edited with HDV, but my sense of it is most folks recommend capturing HDV as ProRes and editing in that format. HDV is a long-GOP format that’s a bear to work with. ProRes is a terrific editing format with high quality.

I don’t have a definitive answer, but here are two links that might get you going. I think MPEG Streamclip might be helpful and FCP or Compressor could be used to make mpeg-4 files.

And in the Encoder tab of the Inspector have Frame Controls turned on and choose the highest quality settings. This can take a while to encode.

  • You can mix P2 cards. I don’t know if the firmware works for all versions of the camera.

In my experience Compressor is the fastest way to convert since it uses multiple cores. Also, while Compressor works, you can still edit with FCP. If you have 2 Macs with Konas (or equivalent) you could play the DVCPro HD out of one and record letterboxed SD on the other.

  • Any of the Panasonic P2 cameras: HVX200, HPX170, HPX300, HPX500 and up. There are some smaller cams that probably work fine. But, I’m not familiar with therm.
