HD camcorder that is compatible with mac & Final Cut
I am having a tough time finding a camcorder that works well with my mac. First it was a Sony Webbie and the .mp4 didn’t work well, then I got a JVC GZ-HD3 with a horrifying .TOD format. I would prefer a hard disk drive camera where I can just drag and drop the files so I don’t have to wait for capture. Are there any camcorders out there that output video as .mov or some other format that actually works in Final Cut without having to render every two seconds? Thanks.

Any of the Panasonic P2 cameras: HVX200, HPX170, HPX300, HPX500 and up. There are some smaller cams that probably work fine. But, I’m not familiar with therm.

John, he is talking about very CONSUMER priced cameras.
The JVC GY-HM100U can…oh, but that is a Prosumer camera too…
If you get an AVCHD camera, those FCP can interface with via the LOG AND TRANSFER option (FCP 6 and up) and it will convert the AVCHD to ProRes…but then you need fast drives. It also converts to AIC, which iMovie does too…for a lighter load.
