I have downloaded a Quick Time file from the National Automobile Dealers Association and cannot play it. I have never seen a file like this. When I right click on the file and select Get Info, here’s what I see: 2048X1024 Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Integer (Little Endian), Timecode.

I’ve never seen those dimensions before. I cannot play in FCP, I cannot play in Quick Time, even MPEG Streamclip won’t see it. I’ve even tried bringing it into After Effects, but It won’t see it either. I usually get audio, but the video is either black or green, depending on what I try to play it in.

I have the following: OSX 10.4.10 QT 7.3.0 FCP 5.1.4

    Now, math wasn’t my best subject, but isn’t 2048X1024 a 2:1 aspect?

Any help in getting this file to play so we can air it is appreciated!

This sounds like a 2K file, but the dimensions aren’t correct. Here’s sa link to an overview of 2K on the AJA site:

Not sure what Mac processor you’re using, but FCP5.1.4 probably can’t deal with this kind of file (or ProRes). Hopefully, folks with more experience with the 2K format will chime in.

    John,

Yes it is a 2k file–the file name has 2k in it. Here’s info on my Mac: 4x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5

The file was created using the log and transfer to import footage from the RED camera. You can’t play it because you don’t have FCP 6 (that introduced ProRes to FCP). You might try downloading the ProRes decoder from Apple’s website. It’s a free download. Then convert it to the format you want or see if you can import it into FCP.
