June 21, 2009 at 5:59 pm in reply to: 720p to DVD – Interlaced or Progressive?

Roger helped me through this last summer (he’s incredibly responsive-thank you). I had used BitVice to make a true 24P (23.976) mv2 from a HD 23.976 progressive source thinking (incorrectly) that was the way to achieve a “Hollywood-type” DVD. When I tried to import that file into DVDSP it said it was an unsupported format. I emailed Roger asking what’s up with my favorite encoder and he explained. Problem solved!

Highlight both the audio & video tracks then Command-L will link them. Cmd-L again will unlink them. This is how FCP works. I’m guessing it’s the same in FCE.

USB is not recommended for video. It can’t keep up. That could very well be your problem.

I’m not familiar with FRAPS. What codec did you convert to with Perian? Can you open and play the Perian-converted file in QT player and/or FCP? Have you tried to encode to a codec other than AIC. What about ProRes?

June 18, 2009 at 9:20 pm in reply to: HPX300 not powering remote zoom?

The remote zoom on our HPX500 stopped working one day. It turned out the M or S switch on the lens assembly wasn’t thrown fully in the correct position (S). It looked ok, but wasn’t. Try exercising that switch.

June 18, 2009 at 7:45 pm in reply to: audio fade – PLEASE HELP

If the dissolve is limited, it’s probably because one side of the transition only has (in your case) 10 frames of audio before the clip ends.

June 18, 2009 at 7:41 pm in reply to: FLV export FCP6 Audio trouble

From your earlier description it sounds as if you might have Flash Encoder installed. It has an Embed Audio control. You may have encoded the file properly, but not have a player for it. Checkout this free swf-flv player from Eltima:

I’m not sure what’s going on. How are you playing back the flv? Is the audio codec selected in the encoder installed on your Mac? Describe your settings.

June 18, 2009 at 3:24 pm in reply to: How to properly capture 480i/30p squeeze to FCP?

The file you exported from FCP is squeezed. If you encode it with Compressor and make a DVD with DVDSP and tell DVDSP that the file is 16:9, your DVD will play 16:9.

If the QT file is the final product and needs to play 16:9 you can open the file with QT Player (PRO) and export it changing the Aspect Ratio choice in Options to 16:9. You can also do this out of FCP by using Export > Using QT Conversion by opening Options and in the Video Settings select Aspect of 16:9.
