  • HPX300 not powering remote zoom?

Posted by Scott Stohler on June 15, 2009 at 7:22 pm

We just purchased an HPX300 with Fujinon 17×4.5BRM-K14 lens.

I can not get the camera to provide power to the remote zoom (Manfrotto 524CFI – sold as a qualified accessory by B&H). The remote zoom is fully functional – it works when plugged into our HPX500. But the HPX300 for some reason does not provide power to the remote. The record function works but nothing else. All servo settings are correct.

Could this be a pin configuration issue? Anybody else have this problem?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

The remote zoom on our HPX500 stopped working one day. It turned out the M or S switch on the lens assembly wasn’t thrown fully in the correct position (S). It looked ok, but wasn’t. Try exercising that switch.

    Thanks John.

This lens has a rather large manual/servo switch. I have flipped it back and forth and am confident it is in the servo position.

I can’t figure out why, but for some reason this camera does not seem to be putting out phantom power through the lens. All other phantom (mikes) is working.

    Strange. Thanks for your thoughts.

I just got one of these too and it will not work with my HPX-301 as said the led light does not come on and it will not control the zoom function.
Wish I had read your post first as I now have to send this back.

Interesting to know that it has happened with others.

Have you tried the remote on another camera? I did and it worked fine (on a HPX500). I am not certain it is the remote. I am leaning towards thinking the camera is not putting out (phantom) power.

Do you have reason to think otherwise?

I have just tried it on a sony S270 with the lens from the 301 and it will not work there either, This must be a lens problem that is incompatible with the manfrotto remote.

I managed to get my hands on an old 8-pin Fujinon Remote Zoom. When plugged into the camera and lens it works perfectly.

Clearly there is some incompatibility between the lens and the Manfrotto remote.

I guess we have no choice but to return the remote.

Hey Scott, I’m also in the Bay Area and just bought the HPX300 as well. I have the Bebob Zoe 8-Pin zoom control from my old JVC HD200 which has a similar Fuji 17x lens, anyway, the Zoe will not work on the new Fuji lens that comes with the HPX300, I called 16×9, Inc and they said it should work. Rather than returning the lens to B&H I decided to sell the Zoe on eBay and I bought Fuji’s 8-Pin remote on eBay for $500.

Hello. We just received our new HPX-301 but we have the same problem : not working with the zoom function of the 524 CFI that was working with a previous DVCAM camera with Canon lens. Have you solved this problem? ANd if not, what is your solution (other stuff??)
    Thanks

we never did solve the issue and Manfrotto was absolutely no help. Both they and B&H remained convinced that that the zoom worked with the lens.

We ended up getting rid of the Manfrotto and going back and using an ancient Canon zoom.

Sorry to not have better news.
