Try adjusting the Force parameter inside Gravity. Also, play around with the Velocity settings. You may find that Foam (Simulation) will do a better job, I often use it for making particle trails.

Not sure where you’re getting that 960 figure from. My normal workflow is 1024 x 576 (square) or 720 x 576 (non-square)…

I noticed that when importing an AI file using gradients as “composition – cropped layers” some layers with gradients got cropped into weird shapes. If this is what you are experiencing try importing as “composition”, this fixed the problem for me.

How about just rendering your lightning out with an alpha channel and importing it into Red? If you need an alpha channel you may prefer to use Advanced Lightning which will generate one automatically. Otherwise for the basic Lightning effect you’ll need something like Knoll Unmult or FAN’s Xmult (free download – do a google search). Either of these will create an alpha for your lightning.

If Reload Footage doesn’t work, save and close the project then press SHIFT OPTION COMMAND P (PC: SHIFT ALT CONTROL P). This will open the last saved project. This is a great way to force projects to update.
