I think I’m the only person who actually likes Media Manager.”I haven’t heard of anyone else who does, so you may be right. Apparently it would be too much work for Apple to improve the way FCP links to media, or their cost benefit analysis shows they won’t sell enough additional workstations to make it worth their time. I’ve had projects get REALLY screwed up by Media Manager because of duplicate clip names. FCP’s dependency on filenames is one of the major limiting factors here.

If turning off autosave solves the problem, it could have something to do with permissions. If for some reason the OS is not giving FCP permission to write to the autosave directory, you might try repairing permissions with Disk Utility, or changing the folder where your autosaves are stored. Please keep us informed on your progress.

Yeah, they’ve introduced Color, a program which wasn’t completely working well when they bought it and still isn’t, by all reports. What laziness.

I agree…no argument there. It has lots of issues. But I don’t have any issues with non-timecoded files. Stills, music, whatever, if I media manage a sequence those elements show up fine in the new project. Where I have the most problems is clips with speed changes. What happens with your non-timecode elements? They just dissappear?

It is a very simple thing and should be possible in Final Cut, but After Effects renders scrolling type much more cleanly than FCP.

I know this thread’s a bit old, but I tried to send the Color pdf user manual file to Kinko’s, have them print it double-sided and bind it, and for some reason when they print it, Acrobat does font subsitution, changing the original Myriad font to Courier and the letters are all squished together with terrible kerning problems. And they had Myriad installed on the computer. So I opened the pdf in Illustrator on my Mac workstation so I could confirm what the font was, and even though it’s a version of Myriad that I have installed, it displays with the same problems in Illustrator. Not sure what Apple did to the manual to make it so proprietary, but sending it to Kinko’s to print is not the answer.

As an alternate to B&H, I like http://www.abelcine.com, also in NY, but staffed with people who know cameras, as well as a repair dept. Abel specializes in camera gear, rather than having a huge variety of products like B&H. Also, they’ve always been right there with B&H on price, at least on the items I’ve bought.

I have the AJ-HD1400 deck so I archive my P2 to DVCProHD tape. I also archive project files and consolidated media files to hard drive. Eventually I might consider an SDLT unit.

Those are MINIMUM system requirements you read about. It’s up to you to make sure your system is properly set up for your needs.
