Trouble rendering – The Biscardi Challenge
I’m working on a project that is a little weird and I’m having trouble rendering my timeline. The project is for a childrens hospital and involves scrolling the names of all their donors who give over $1000 in a single year. The project will be viewed using special “video wall” software that will allow us to project a resolution of 2559 x 480. However the monitors will be rotated 90 degrees so they stand like a long column.
We are working in a photo Jpeg. The backgrounds were done by the guys at Skywalker Ranch in California and they look great. The scrolling lettering was accomplished by producting the text in photoshop and then using the motion tab to rotate the text from 480 x 2559 to a displayed position of 2559 x 480. We also use the motion tab to move the text from Right to Left. When the monitors are turned on their sides this motion will appear to move from bottom to top – just like the scrolling text we are all used to. Obviously several layers of text are needed to make this appear as a consistant roll.
The problem is that once I get to anything more than one layer the rendering just quits or it gives me a general error. I’m using a non-Intel Dual core processor with 4GB of RAM and have Final Cut 5.0. It works flawlessly with everything else we are doing. Clearly this project is a bit of an odd duck.
Obviously I’m taxing the system. We did this project before and used HDV footage for the background that was shot on it’s side and expanded to the limits of 2559 and it worked great. Now the backgrounds are true 2259 and that is giving us huge fits. I’ve turned off all other programs and I’m careful not to tax the system in any other way.
How can we make this render?
I know Walter Biscardi must get tired of answering the same questions all the time so I thought I would give him this one for a real challenge.
