AG-HVX200 HD Panasonic for $1699.00 – HOW?
Posted by Greenstone on June 6, 2007 at 4:52 amI’m preparing to buy an AG-HVX200 HD Panasonic Camcorder. On the Panasonic website it lists for $5,995.00, but on http://www.DealSnatch.com and other sites it’s available for as low as $1699.00 I’m aware that some components are probably not included with the cheaper packages, but will I be ultimately saving money and can I trust these discount sites to deliver the product intact as advertised? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

June 6, 2007 at 6:27 am“some components are probably not included…” No. You can rest assured that components will definitely NOT be included. You won’t have a Panasonic warranty, the printing on the camera may be in a foreign language, you won’t have batteries, a charger, remote or cables/connectors. You may be missing an owners manual. If you let them “sell” you these items it will be at a greatly inflated rate for products that aren’t even Panasonic brand (such as the battery).
This question comes up once every couple weeks. Search the other posts and you’ll find the same info.

June 6, 2007 at 8:32 amThese guys are all under investigation for a number of shady practices. You will not get the HVX200 for much under $5400 if it is a fully equipped US product. If you want a warranty and a company to back you up, you should buy it from an authorized dealer.
Best regards,

June 6, 2007 at 7:13 pmIn your life, you should ask one question…”Does this sound TOO good to be true?” If the answer is “Yes” then you have just answered your own question. Remember too, T.A.N.S.T.A.A.F.L It means “There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch”

June 7, 2007 at 5:14 amAnd last but not least, these shady grey market East Coast (usually Brooklyn) weasels have their employees spend lots of time on all the rating sites saying good things and rendering them practically useless.
If you look closely you will begin to see similar verbiage patterns with the cheapo sites with intermittent inflammatory complaints like, “steer clear!”
You don’t see this with BH Photo which I believe is the current industry standard. I have had good luck with Profeel.com which is a little cheaper than BH but BH is king.
Good luck.

June 12, 2007 at 1:41 amAs an alternate to B&H, I like http://www.abelcine.com, also in NY, but staffed with people who know cameras, as well as a repair dept. Abel specializes in camera gear, rather than having a huge variety of products like B&H. Also, they’ve always been right there with B&H on price, at least on the items I’ve bought.
