It started at 8 hours and actually took 2 and a half. I think maybe the reason it took so long is in this particular show I had a couple dozen mattes & masks, which I normally haven’t had in the past.

I think that’s the case. Ever since we got that firmware upgrade we haven’t run into the white balance issue between ND filters.

    Bob,

If you’re shooting for television on the XDCAM EX, 1080i/29.97 is the way to go. We’ve delivered well over “70 HD hours” to various television outlets in the U.S. and no one with whom we do business wants the look you get with 24P, nor will they accept it.

Even when we’re using our Varicam we always convert to 1080i as we digitized.

The XDCAM EX cameras are perfectly acceptable for most outlets that we know of.

    Thanks Victor,

i think I’m going to reinstall Studio 2. I’ve had some other funky stuff going on, like in an hour XDCAM EX show I’ll go along with several edits with my playback set at safe RT, getting green bars, then all of a sudden they change to red. If I trash my preferences and restart FCP they go back to green. This will last for awhile, then they go back to red, so something weird is going on.

Thanks for trying. I tried a different project, using one of my clips to check that the sequence was set right and nothing improved.

if I get this project rendered and off the timeline tonight, I’ll reinstall tomorrow and let you know.

    thx..jw

All clips are shot in same format and whenever I start an XDCAM EX sequence I put a clip on the timeline and select option “yes” to make sequence match clip.

I did that on this one too. Also placed native clip in sequence and it behaves normally. No render needed.

i wonder if this is a bug that needs to be addressed in the next FCP release?

  • Not sure what market or country you’re in, but in the U.S. our rate for a two person crew and simple EX-3 camera package with a couple of RF’s is $1,250. Half day rate is $950 for 5 hrs. I would imagine a one person shoot would be $950, but we only work as a team, so not sure about that.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Jerry,

I’ve always thought the conventional wisdom was to edit in the native format, but render in Pro Res.

also I’m more interested in why my edit system is working for a few edits then needs to be “pref trashed” to continue working.

Thanks for the info. It’s amazing how little information there is about the adapter. I couldn’t even find it on Fujinon’s site.
