Bob,
We use compressor and have for the last 9 years to convert HD to DVD and it works beautifully. Well enough that a lot of screen manufacturers used our DVD’s to demo their screens until Blue Rey and HDDVD came out.
Also if you’re ever looking for some neat HD American Stock footage or clips from Africa, India or china stop by our website at https://WWW.Bennett-Watt-HD-Stock-Footage-Library.com.
Post if you need any instruction on how to make this work. I use a 6.5 mbs setting, but the default for 90 minutes works fine too.

I tried the text editor and have the same problem. It’s not that I want to maintain the format that I have made in word or the text editor. I’m losing the formatting I make in Motion, which looks fine when I finish working on the file and save it, but then when i reopen the file the formatting is gone.
I thought maybe I had a corrupt file that i was inserting the text to, so I tried, actually on another project, doing a similar thing and ran into the same problem. Very puzzling. Also once I correct the formatting problem the second time it seems to stick???

Hi Don,
Thanks a million for your quick reply. I never guessed the old 4 GB files size limit was still hanging around to bite me. It does however make sense.
Thanks again…jw

Richard,
Thanks for the reply, but I see no formula in compressor that will add a watermark to a batch of clips. Can you point me in the right direction?

Reinstalling did not solve the problem, so I have no solution.

We’re basically “screwed” with a camera that’s not all that popular for clients these days.
Our “H” model sits on the shelf while the Sony XDCAM’s go crazy, as do we, working them. Sure the $2,200 days are gone, but $1,500 for an XDCAM EX-3 package is decent and business is good.
No, No, I say no network business for any format in the northwest for us. I’m sure there are a few guys doing OK, but we took ourselves out of that market when we started the Discoveries…America series in 2003.
Still “had” to buy a Varicam for a few ABC gigs, and a couple of movie attempts, but what a waste of money, and they dropped the price 10K just a few months after we bought it. it has a very safe place on the shelf.
Considering we bought the very first HD camera these “clowns” sold in the world, you’d hope, like Rodney Dangerfield, “for a little respect” or at least consideration anyway.
Anyway to make a very, very, long story short, the business model is fluid and we all need to adapt, though for me, a very old dog” ,it’s getting harder to learn new tricks.
Please, please don’t let me work with another “12 year old” producer that forms a square whith thier hands to show me what I’m supposed to be shooting.
Fortunately, away from the news business our producers seem to be getting better and more mature. Of course many of them are the same vintage or a tad younger that we wer working with in the ‘halcyon days” of the news biz.
Life’s great and they’ll bury me with a camera in my hand or at least a mouse and keyboard attached.

We’ve been using the EX cameras for about 16 months and are amassing a huge amount of data. We have had no experience with Dl’s, but we just do a back up to two different hard drives, then rescan them once a year. 1TB drives are so inexpensive, like $130 at Costco that it seems to be the way to go. We keep one drive in the safe. Granted you need a pretty decent sized safe, but the system is safe, simple and fast.

I’m just doing a straight export to QT with the same settings. I’m also trying one to proRes HQ and it seems to be going a little faster. As I mentioned in another post, it could be because I have 3 way CC on all the clips and about 18 custom gradient/mask shape and mask feather combinations with cc on both clips. It seems a little odd that all this would slow things since they’re already rendered, but????
thx…jw

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your comments. It makes sense to make the movie Pro res instead of staying in the same format. I’m trying that now and it’s now only taking or estimated to take a couple of hours.
I think the other issue is that every clip has a 3 way color corrector on it and there are about 18 custom gradients, oval mask and mask feather combinations with CC on both the clips in each.
