Not really, though it’s not as sweet as using it with the EX-3 where i don’t mind double recording.
The remote cable has a tally light on it and other than a few moments of cold sweat when you take a little mind vacation and forget exactly how you’re recording and don’t see the light in the viewfinder it works fine. The quality is amazing.

I have 2 mounting positions, both done with velcro. One is on the back of my two Lectrosonics RF receivers the other is on the side of the two receivers just to cut down on length a bit.

The RF receivers are velcroed & strapped to a plate on the back of my duel NP-1 battery case.

I’m using a remote cable to start & stop the NF.

That’s the step I was trying to avoid, but you brought up an interesting time saver. I could just make it a reference movie and save quite a bit of time I think.

The conversions were done at a post house, so I’ll need to check to see which technique they used. I was trying to make the fix without taking everything back down to them to redo.

We have done a couple of hundred HD 60i to 50i conversions using the Alchemist and our clients rave about them. We tested the Teranex and several software conversions and none were acceptable to our clients. Will be interesting to see what they think of the Avid conversion. We’ll run a test and send it to them.

If this a controlled environment, then use a flash camera and take a picture at the beginning of each take. We’ve shot a lot of stuff with our EX-3 & EX-1 and synced this way. We also set time of day or any random TC starting the TC free run both cameras at the same time. It drifts a few frames over several hours, but give you a reference of where to look and on some days they run very close. Not a clue why.

We shot for 6 weeks in Africa and just used the free run TC which was satisfactory for getting us in the right neighborhood to find sync.

So I reduced the number of cores to 6, from 8 and the encode went fine. A little slower, but still decent.

That was incidentally on a MacPro 2.3GHZ, 10GB ram FCS 7 & Snow leopard

I think there is definitely something wrong here, but it’s odd there has been little response to this post.

I’m getting the same error when I have all 8 processors devoted to compressor. I have tried different files and nothing seems to work with all 8 cores working. I took the same program, (2 hrs) and did it on the default setup and it works fine albeit very slow. I’m going to try it this evening with 6 cores and see what happens.

I do the export on one of my power PC’s using all 2 cores it has and it works fine too so I think there is some sort of bug in the new compressor that I was not getting before I installed FCS 7.

Anyone else running into this?

Don’t let mark frighten you. In my opinion the situation is not so desperate. i’ve produced and shot high end television shows for 45 years and camera failure is about the last thing you need to worry about. Quite frankly i’ve never had a camera go bad on a shoot and have only dropped two in 45 years.

A good camera or a better camera is always nice. The HMI is about the last thing you need. You should have a little Lite Panels portable light for when things get too dar, but the portable HMI is way overkill for your work and budget

a decent computer with FCP is definitely a must have. you might be able to struggle thru with Final cut Express for awhile, but Final cut studio is where you want to set your sights. Don’t worry about all the plugins for now.

Acquire lights as you go. Check used lighting equipment, it’s amazing what you can find.

We of course have more than one now, but much of this was shot with only one camera on the road. The ireland series was shot when there were only two of our HD cameras in the entire US.
