Bottom line…always stress relief ALL cables connected to equipment. How much effort does it take to attach a good tie wrap to your tripod leg and use some throw mats to cover cable in any traffic area or tape it down.

I’d also check voice, just in case you hear some abnormalities in the voice quality. We regularly feed our PSC M4 to our EX-3 and Ex-1 and have our receivers set at Minus 30, and generally ( I know this will sound a little “canned” but set the volume control at 5) and it’s perfect. You mixer settings will determine where you set your transmitters, if they have a setting at all. In the camera I generally will set the audio level to about 2-3 marks above(to the right of) the 4:3 frame indicator if that’s any help.

We always record on both media when using the nano Flash, it’s just more convenient than using the remote roll switch and you have the benefit of a backup. If you’re shooting time of day time code however, you’ll need to use the remote roll cable for the Nano Flash to trigger recording.

So in the HQ mode the 24P is 24psf and not true or pure 24P?

I’m probably not the one to answer this definitively, however that said, this is what little I know.
I set my Nano Flash to record 720p and check the “record PSF box, but don’t check the remove pulldown box. The files a I get are indeed 720P/60, but that I believe is just how the camera records 24p.

Like I say, I’m no 24p expert, since 99.9% of my experience is with 29.97or 60P but if you look around in this forum, I think i saw a good explanation from John Shareff regarding how the Varicam records 24P.

My EX-3 also outputs 24P at 60fps through the SDI out.

Thanks for the explanation. When we switched to HD & 16:9, I never gave much thought to SD 16:9 until ABC in their infinite wisdom decided to go to 16:9 SD rather than HD.

I could see the video was 16:9 on my timeline, now I notice the sequence settings are indeed set to anamophic.

True, however there are three choices for the downconvert 1. squeeze, 2. letter box, 3. crop. Technically none of these are 16 x 9, but if you look at the output in the monitor the squeeze setting appears to be 16 x 9, but if you record the picture and look at the specs in FCP it tells me it’s a 720 x 486 picture which is 4 x 3.

For my own work we never shoot SD, but we have a client who insists and want it in 16 x 9, so we’re recording on a Nano Flash recorder. If i put the shot on a timeline FCP will automatically set the time line so the picture looks like 16 x 9, but I’d like to know why the item properties are stil lsaying it’s a 4:3 shot.
