I can’t reproduce the issue, at least as I understand it. Could you please post your project file?

To smooth the extrusion you want the steps to be closer together, so you actually want to increase the number of points in the spline, not reduce them. To do so in C4D, increase the “Number” setting in the spline’s attributes until you get the desired result.
(And it looks like you found the “cubic” option)

You figured it out yourself. That seems pretty smart to me.

If this is happening in every project, then I would suspect a bug. If only in this one, then I would guess that the project has gotten corrupted and you could try copying everything into a new project and setting up the render there.

Here’s info from the Help files on the Connect object. I’m guessing that welding the sub-points of the objects in the Connect is causing the erratic interactions between the spheres cloned onto them. You can also get rid of that unwanted motion by reducing the “Tolerance” setting (.01, for example), but I don’t think you need to enable Weld at all.

Deselect “Weld” either in the Connect object, or in the same settings in the Cloner.

I would suggest uploading the project file. It would be a lot easier for someone to find the problem if they could see the project.

If you’re just trying to drop a fractured object on to a plane and have it break apart on impact, your setup should like the one below. If that doesn’t help, please upload your project file.
